Art Now: The Soul Is a Wanderer

This group exhibition at Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center centered around the poetry of Joy Harjo and highlights contemporary art in the state of Oklahoma. In this exhibition Isaac explores ancient traditions all while trying to piece together fragmented histories of colonialism. The histories of The Americas has left its current indigenous populations separated from their histories. However, by studying the past one can create a new future for those tied to the land.

Guineo

Guineo means unripe banana in some Spanish speaking countries. The unripe banana represents patience and waiting for change. Guineo is an unraveling, a spiraling, of learning how to carve out a path for one’s self. Guineo is Isaac’s first solo exhibition.

Of Self, Of Earth

Mixed media installation, May 2021, The University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK- Having graduated from university in 2021 this my final senior capstone showing. Throughout my college career I explored ideas of balance, reflection, and meditation. My capstone was a summary of my time in college and has served as a foundation for my artistic explorations.

Projection

Mixed media sculptures, October 2020, The University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK - Each piece and arrangement in this series asks how the self relates to society, and how those both relate to the earth. Often, we feel we’re yelling into a wall only to hear our frustrations about human rights and environmental issues reflected back at us. It is this frustration that drives me to continue making art.
